another condition diabetics might be at
greater risk for is deep vein thrombosis
or DVT blood clots in the deep veins of
the legs some studies have suggested
that changes in the blood clotting due
to diabetes may also contribute to
increase in the risk of DVT what may
initially present with similar symptoms
as neuropathy the two conditions are
very different which makes awareness
essential as part of diabetes management
we spoke with dr. Charlie Hahn at veins
Florida about the symptoms associated
with deep vein thrombosis the varicose
veins can cause blood clots in them and
then they caused a tremendous amount of
pain once the blood in them development
become a Klum's
and we called a thrombophlebitis and
also the larger it gets they tend to
pull more blood and which cause skin
changes color changes around these large
varicose veins we can cause skin ulcers
which you will take very long time to
heal and also they can cause a large
amount of bleeding if they got injured
for thrombosis you know the the varicose
veins they carry large amount of blood
and that's why those things are huge
a lot of times they stay there for a
long time and for some patients they can
develop a a large blood clots which is
not as dangerous as the deeper vein
thrombosis they tend not to travel but
what they can do is they can continue to
grow and involve a large portion of the
varicose vein and cause a local
inflammation which is swelling and
redness and Dima and these are very
painful deep vein thrombosis the cluster
located within the deeper vein usually
they in the pelvis and those clots can
travel to the lungs which can cause
pulmonary embolus they tend to develop
blood clots because there's less blood
flow when you're sitting in for a long
time you kick off those veins in the
pelvis and then the the muscle doesn't
move is my
so it doesn't pump the blood back into
your system whether you're traveling at
work or home on the couch dr. Han adds
make sure you're moving around as much
as possible instead of sitting for an
entire flight get up and walk down the
aisles if you're in the car for an
extended Drive stop and walk around when
you're getting gas veins Florida offers
